MBB | Western tests UVU before hosting Colorado Mesa Saturday

GUNNISON, Colo. – Western Colorado University Men's Basketball readies for a road trip to the Wasatch Range of Utah before doubling-back to the Western Slope. On Wednesday, Western heads to Orem, Utah for an exhibition test against NCAA DI Utah Valley University before returning home to host Colorado Mesa University on Saturday. Both games are slated for a 7:00 p.m. tip.

Early in the season, Western (3-3 0-0 RMAC) has proven dangerous when hot. The Mountaineers are averaging 82.3 points per game on 45% shooting. Western's offensive output is currently the fourth highest in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Prolific shooters, the Mountaineers have been pouring it on their opponents in the first-half. Across the season, Western has outscored opponents 266-197 before halftime.

Individually, Quincy Harding leads Western in scoring with 20 points per game. Harding's tally is the fifth best in the RMAC. Following suit for the Mountaineers, Brady Subart is averaging 15.6 points per game while Jaire Roberts posts an even 14 points per game.

Wednesday, Western breaks-up the regular season schedule with another exhibition contest against NCAA DI competition. On the season, Western is 1-0 in exhibition games against DI universities after taking down the Air Force Academy in early November.

At Utah Valley (4-3 0-0 WAC), Western finds a team on a three game win streak. Most recently, the Wolverines knocked off the University of North Dakota to continue a 16-game home win streak.

No stranger to the RMAC, UVU has already played Dixie State University and Westminster College in 2018, taking lopsided wins in both efforts.

Jake Toolson leads UVU with 14.9 points per game.

On Saturday in Paul Wright Gym, Western begins the RMAC season with a match-up against Western Slope rival Colorado Mesa University. While Colorado Mesa (5-1 0-0 RMAC) leads the all-time series 60-32, the match-up has yielded nail-biters in recent years.

The last four games between Western and Colorado Mesa have been decided by a total of six points.

All fans are encouraged to come out and support the Mountaineers as they open the conference schedule Saturday. For those who cannot make it out, be sure to follow the action through links above.
