VB | Western hosts final match and Senior Night against CMU

GUNNISON, Colo. – Western Colorado University volleyball returns to Paul Wright Gym Friday for the final game of the season. When Western squares-off with Colorado Mesa University, they will honor three athletes on Senior Night before the match.

Western (2-22, 1-15 RMAC) will close out the 2018 season at home against Colorado Mesa University (19-6, 14-3 RMAC).

Before the match, Western volleyball will recognize the efforts of three athletes on Senior Night. Cammi Baumann, Kathleen Kasel, and Kelsey Ubben will close out their careers as Mountaineers on Friday.

As a senior, Baumann has played in 21 matches for Western in 2018. Western's leader in digs, Baumann has accumulated 289 digs on the season for an average of 4.19 per set. Additionally, she is among the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference leaders in service aces with 23 on the year for a .31 per set average.

Kasel has been a consistent scoring presence for Western in her final campaign. Having overcome a back injury that limited her junior season, Kasel has recorded 143 kills on .134 hitting for the Mountaineers. In addition to her offensive presence, Kasel leads Western on the block with 47 total blocks on the season for an average of .60 per set.

In 2018, Ubben has played in 13 matches for Western while recording 11 kills and seven blocks.

Friday, Western will close up the season against a strong Colorado Mesa unit that finds itself on a two game win streak. Most recently, the Mavericks stole a five-set match from RMAC leader Colorado School of Mines.

With a win, the Mavericks put themselves in position to potentially share part of the RMAC regular season title.

The Mavericks are powered by NCAA DII statistical leader, Kasie Gilfert, who maintains a .453 hitting percentage while putting down a whopping 347 kills in 2018. Additionally, Colorado Mesa has two other athletes with over 200 kills on the season between MacKenzie Edwards and Camille Smith.

Colorado Mesa sets by committee as Ara Norwood and Samantha Ritter have combined for nearly 900 assists on the year.

For those who can't make it out to Paul Wright Gym on Friday, gomountaineers.com will be streaming the match along with live stats.
