VB | Orediggers overcome Mountaineers at home

Box Score GOLDEN, Colo. – Western Colorado University took on a tough Colorado School of Mines squad at Lockridge Arena on Friday night. However, Western was unable to overcome the home team as the Colorado Mines took the match in three sets, 25-12, 25-18, 25-16.

Despite leading in the early stages of set two, Western (2-22, 1-15 RMAC) could not mount a comeback against Colorado Mines (21-3, 15-1 RMAC).

The Mountaineers out-blocked the Orediggers with a season high 10 blocks, but it was not enough to keep Western in the match over the long run.

Leading the Mountaineers at the net, Maddy Johnson tallied a season best eight blocks.

In the second set, Western used a .152 hitting percentage and several key Johnson blocks to test Colorado Mines until the middle of the set. The Mountaineers tied the set at 10-10 on an Oredigger ball handling error, but it would be the last tie of the set as Colorado Mines pulled away in the second half.

Western returns to the court tomorrow evening with a match against UCCS at 5 p.m.
