WSOC | Pink Match and Senior Day this weekend

GUNNISON, Colo. – Western Colorado University Women's Soccer will play the final home games of 2018 this weekend on Gateway Field. The Mountaineers host Fort Lewis College at 3 p.m. on Friday and Adams State University at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
 
Friday's match will be the annual Pink Match, to raise awareness for cancer. All fans are invited to wear pink, as the Mountaineers will don their pink jerseys.
 
Sunday, the Mountaineers will honor seven seniors as six will be playing their final match in Gunnison. The seniors will be honored 15 minutes before the start of the match against ASU at 12:45 p.m.
 
The seven Western players being honored are Ingrid Alvarez, Kimberlee Bourelle, Katie Desch, Emilie Eckhart, Sophie Fear, Taylor Frick and Aspen Heale.
 
Both matches and the senior presentation will be streamed live online.
 
With four matches left in the regular season, Western (3-9-1, 3-5-1 RMAC) is 10th in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings. The top eight teams make it into the RMAC Tournament at the end of the season.
 
The Mountaineers are two points - two draws - out of the seventh and eighth spot, while they sit three points - one win - out of the sixth spot.
 
Sitting one point behind Western is Friday's opponent, Fort Lewis (4-8-1, 3-6 RMAC). The Skyhawks have lost their last six matches heading into the weekend.
 
FLC's offense is led by Renee Terrell, Britney Johnson and Emma Patron. Terrell and Johnson each have three goals this season to lead the team, while Patron has recorded four assists, which ranks tied for sixth best in the conference.
 
Against FLC, Western has a 2-4-2 record. The two teams split last year's series, 1-1, as each team won the home match.
 
The Mountaineers enter the final home slate following a scoreless draw against CSU-Pueblo and a 3-1 win over New Mexico Highlands University.
 
For her performance in those matches, Western goalkeeper Emilie Eckhart was named the RMAC Women's Soccer Goalie of the Week. Eckhart had 19 saves, with the only goal against coming off a penalty kick.
 
Eckhart is second in the conference with 88 saves this season, and her 6.77 saves per game average is also second best.
 
Megan Wheelock is Western's top goal scorer this season. Wheelock has netted three and added one assist.
 
Adams State (2-11, 1-8 RMAC) enters the weekend having lost their last seven matches. The Grizzlies will play Colorado Mesa University on Friday before making the trip to Gunnison on Sunday.
 
Against the Grizzlies, Western has a 5-2-1 record and have won five straight. At home, the Mountaineers are 3-1 against ASU.
 
The Grizzlies are led by Diana Cerillo and Breana Flores. Each player has scored five goals during the 2018 campaign.
 
Following this weekend's home matches, Western faces Westminster College and Dixie State University on the road to end the regular season. Westminster is currently tied for third in the RMAC, while Dixie sits tied for seventh.
