WSOC | Mountaineers earn shutout against CSU-P

PUEBLO, Colo. – Western Colorado University Women's Soccer picked up a much needed conference point on Friday in Pueblo, Colorado. The Mountaineers and Colorado State University – Pueblo played to a scoreless draw, with each team earning a point in the conference standings.

Western (2-9-1, 2-5-1 RMAC) is now just two points from the eighth place and final conference tournament spot with five matches left in the regular season.

Friday was the first shutout of the season for the Mountaineers. Goalkeeper Emilie Eckhart helped shutdown the Thunderwolves offense, making 11 saves. It's the second time Eckhart has recorded 11 saves in a match this season.

After an uptight offensive first half, both teams pushed hard for the game-winning goal in the second half. The Mountaineers recorded eight shots in the second half, while CSU-Pueblo notched 12.

In the first overtime, Megan Wheelock forced a save from the Thunderwolve goalkeeper, but CSU-Pueblo returned the favor in the second overtime, but Eckhart was up to the task.

Katie Desch led Western in shots, recording three on the day.

The Mountaineers will look to add more points on Sunday at New Mexico Highlands University, starting at 1 p.m. in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
