GUNNISON, Colo. – Western Colorado University Women's Soccer returns to the road this weekend for two crucial Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matches. The Mountaineers face Colorado State University – Pueblo on Friday at 4:30 p.m. before a 1 p.m. match at New Mexico Highlands University on Sunday.
With six matches left to play in the regular season, Western (2-9, 2-5 RMAC) enters the weekend tied for 10
th place in the RMAC standings. The Mountaineers are just three points behind Fort Lewis College in eighth place. The top eight teams make the RMAC Tournament at the end of the season.
The Mountaineers are coming-off a 1-0 loss to Colorado Mesa University last Sunday.
Alex Mason is leading Western in points and goals. The freshman has scored twice this season, giving her four points on the year.
Goalkeeper
Emilie Eckhart continues to produce saves for the Mountaineers, ranking second in the conference for total stops at 69 and saves per game at 6.27.
Friday's meeting against CSU-Pueblo will be the sixth time the two teams have met. The Mountaineers will be looking for their first win over the Thunderwolves, as CSU-Pueblo holds a 4-0-1 series lead.
CSU-Pueblo (7-3-1, 4-3 RMAC) is two wins ahead of the Mountaineers in the RMAC standings, tied for sixth place.
The Thunderwolves are on a four-match winning streak, having defeated Regis University 2-1 in their last match.
Mackenzie Bean leads the Thunderwolves and is third in the conference with 17 points. She is tied for the team lead in goals with six, along with Laikyn Koss.
NMHU (1-9, 1-6 RMAC) is one win below the Mountaineers in the RMAC standings, tied for 12
th place.
The Cowgirls enter the weekend having won their first match of the season, in a 5-4 victory over Black Hills State University.
Western is 2-4 all-time against NMHU and have won the last two meetings. The Mountaineers have outscored the Cowgirls 6-0 over the previous two matches. However, in Las Vegas, New Mexico the Mountaineers are 0-3.
Nitza Rodriguez is leading NMHU in goals with three scored this season.
