DENVER, Colo. – Western State Colorado University women's basketball came out hot in the Regis Fieldhouse storming to a 20-8 lead in the first quarter. The Mountaineers maintained a lead until the fourth quarter before falling 60-68 to Regis University.
Tammarrah Gothard played the best game of her Western career to pace the Mountaineers. Gothard finished the night with 14 points, four rebounds, two assists, and a steal while shooting 50% from the floor. While Gothard managed the backcourt,
Katie Dalton offered a counter in the post, scoring 11 points and dishing out three assists.
Ball movement was key as the Mountaineers recorded 16 assists on a total of 24 made baskets. A remarkable 66% of Western's baskets came off an assist.
After chasing the Mountaineers all night, the Rangers took the lead 51-52 with 5:33 remaining in the game. It was only the second time Regis led on the night after briefly grasping the lead in the third. But, it would be enough as Regis held off Western over the final five minutes.
Despite leading for over three-quarters of the game, turnovers and personal fouls would be the difference maker late for the Mountaineers.
Throughout the first half, Western led by as many as 13 points while holding Regis to a mere 19 points in the first half. At the break, the Mountaineers held a 29-19 edge.
