GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State Colorado University women's basketball looks to build a win streak this weekend on the road at Regis University and Chadron State College. Fresh off a home win to close out 2017, Western continues the campaign against Regis on Friday night at 5:00 p.m. before pushing on to face Chadron State Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
In their last game, Western (5-8, 2-5 RMAC) put the brakes on a three-game skid to overcome University of Colorado at Colorado Springs 74-62. Against UCCS, Western played their best offensive effort of the season, with four players scoring in double digits, propelling the Mountaineers past the Mountain Lions.
Freshman
Katie Dalton continues to lead Western in scoring with 10.8 points per game. Fellow freshman
Jessie Erickson and
Samantha Coleman have also provided a steady presence for the Mountaineers with both averaging over seven points a game.
Heading into Friday night's match up with Regis (5-7, 4-3 RMAC), the Mountaineers will count on another well-rounded offensive effort and presence on the glass to challenge the Rangers. With second-chance points a plenty for the Mountaineers this season, the battle for the boards will be crucial for both teams. Regis has held opponents to the 32.9 rebounds a game, the second best effort in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while dragging down 40 rebounds a game.
The Rangers are led by Mary Sigler and Majestie Robinson, both top ten scorers in the RMAC at 13+ points per game.
At Chadron State (3-11, 1-7 RMAC) Western faces a team on a seven game losing streak. But, all three of the Eagles wins have come at home this season. Chadron State is allowing an RMAC leading 71.4 points per game. Despite averaging five points per game more than Western, defensive efforts should be crucial in the game.
The Eagles rely on workhorse, Kalli Feddersen who averages 14 points and 4.1 assists per game on a whopping 32 minutes per game. Feddersen's 14 points per game is currently the 5
th best in the RMAC.
