MBB | Western carries momentum into road series

GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State Colorado University men's basketball hits the road for two games against Regis University and Chadron State College this weekend. Following a comeback defeat of University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Western looks for key conference wins Friday at 7:00 p.m. versus Regis University and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. versus Chadron State College.

Western (4-9, 2-5 RMAC) takes to the road after facing adversity and coming away with a win against UCCS at home in their last game. In the effort, the Mountaineers rallied in the second half to down the Mountain Lions 77-72.

Led by the efforts of Ben Beauchamp and Collin Smith, Western features a potent offensive attack. Beauchamp leads the Mountaineers with 16.2 points per game, while Collin Smith continues a strong season averaging 14.6 points per game. Averaging 81.2 points per game, the Mountaineers also average nearly 10 three-point buckets a game – good for second in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Monroe Porter makes his presence felt defensively for the Mountaineers with a team leading 7.1 rebounds per game. Porter's rebounding efforts are in the top ten of the RMAC.

At Regis (10-3, 4-3 RMAC) Western faces a hot-shooting squad averaging 82 points per game on 46% shooting. Christian Little averages 16.3 points per game for the Rangers while Dexter Sienko shoots 56% from the floor – second best in the RMAC. After rolling through the preseason, Regis has faced some tough tests in the early stages of conference play.

Against Chadron State (3-11, 1-7 RMAC) Western finds a team struggling for wins. Chadron's last win came on December 4th before the Eagles hit a six game slide. In their most recent outing, Chadron dropped a nail-biter against Adams State 74-75. Despite only putting up an RMAC low 66 points a game, the Eagles have held opponents to a respectable 75.2 points per game.

Statistically, Jaisean Jackson leads Chadron with 12.2 points per game while Jeremy Ruffin cleans up the glass with 6.6 rebounds per game.
