GUNNISON, Colo. –
Katie Dalton scored a career high 22 points, shooting 80 percent (8-of-10) from the field, but it wasn't enough as Western State Colorado University women's basketball fell to Black Hills State University 61-67 on Saturday night.
Â
Western (6-15, 3-12 RMAC) was better or equal to BHSU (17-4, 11-4 RMAC) in nearly every statistical category on Saturday. The only difference was points off turnovers. The Yellow Jackets converted 26 turnovers into 30 points.
Â
Dalton kept the Mountaineer offense churning, making 8-of-10 field goals and grabbing six rebounds. Helping Dalton reach a career high was teammate
Jessie Erickson. Erickson led all players with six assists, consistently finding Dalton in the post.
Â
After falling behind by one in the first quarter, Western took a two-point lead into halftime, ahead 31-29.
Â
The Mountaineers held that first half lead until the 4:34 mark in the third quarter.
Â
Western continued to fight and went back ahead by two point after a
Jadyn Kanzler jumper found the back of the net with 4:38 left to play. Unfortunately for the Mountaineers, it would be the last lead of the game for Western.
Â
Samantha Coleman also scored in double figures for the Mountaineers, adding 12 points, all by way of three-point field goals.
Â
Western continues the season on Tuesday when they host Colorado Mesa University at 5:30 p.m. in Paul Wright Gym.
