WBB | Balanced Western attack falls short at Metro

DENVER, Colo. – Western State Colorado University women's basketball saw two women put up double-digit points while eight women scored on the night, but Western could not overcome Metropolitan State University of Denver. The Mountaineers fell 61-69 to the Roadrunners.

Chandler Sturm's led Western (6-13, 3-10 RMAC) on offense, scoring 14 points on 4-5 from the floor while shooting 83% from the foul-line. The 14-point tally was Sturm's Western career best and second amongst all-scorers on the night.

Jessie Erickson managed a complete game for the Mountaineers with 11 points, five rebounds, and three assists contributing to Western's fourth highest scoring output of the season.

Western finished +8 in the turnover margin, but were not able to find the basket off turnovers scoring just seven points off 18 Metro (13-6, 9-4 RMAC) turnovers.

The Mountaineers got out to an early lead before Metro nabbed the advantage with 7:25 remaining in the first quarter. The Roadrunners would hold off the Mountaineers through the remainder of the half, taking a four-point margin into the locker room.

After the half, Western cut the lead to within two three times, but could not regain the advantage over Metro.

In the fourth, Metro would lead by as many as 14 points, led by the dominant play of Georgia Ohrdorf.

After the roadtrip, Western returns home next weekend to host Mentor and Faculty/Staff Appreciation night on Friday and Saturday, January 26th and 27th.
