MBB | Mountaineers host CCU & CSM this weekend

GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State Colorado University men's basketball have a pair of key Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchups this weekend at home. The Mountaineers host Colorado Christian University on Friday and No. 22 Colorado School of Mines on Saturday as the race for the conference tournament heats up.
 
Western (5-10, 3-6 RMAC) plays CCU (3-11, 2-6 RMAC) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night and CSM (12-2, 6-2 RMAC) at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Both games will be played in Paul Wright Gym.
 
The Mountaineers are coming off a 96-72 win over Chadron State College last Saturday. Western has won two of their last three games heading into the weekend.
 
Currently in a four-way tie for ninth place in the conference, the Mountaineers are two games behind Black Hills State University in the final spot for the conference tournament. Western has 13 conference games remaining in the season.
 
Western's offense is sixth best in the conference, averaging 81.7 points per game. Helping fuel the Mountaineer offense is Collin Smith and Ben Beauchamp. Smith is averaging 15.7 points per game, while Beauchamp is averaging 15.1.
 
CCU enters the weekend on a three-game slide and is 13th in the conference standings. The Cougars are 0-4 on the road this season.
 
Stefan Hackethal leads the CCU offensive attack, averaging 16.8 points per game, which is tied for seventh best in the RMAC.
 
CSM, ranked 22nd in Division II, started the season with 10 straight wins, but are 2-2 in their last four games. The Orediggers are coming off a 78-73 loss to Westminster College in their previous game.
 
CSM is 5-0 on the road the season and will face Colorado Mesa University on Friday night before making the trip to Gunnison on Saturday.
 
The Orediggers have allowed the third fewest points on average in the conference this season at 70.3 points per game.
 
Luke Schroepfer is the leading scorer for CSM, averaging 14.6 points per game.
