GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State Colorado University got out to great start on Friday night against Westminster College. The Mountaineers were unable to fend off the Griffins attack and fell 54-46.

Western (5-16, 4-13 RMAC) scored over half of their total points in the first quarter. The Mountaineers built a first-quarter lead into 12 points before ending the quarter ahead, 24-15.

Seven of those 24 points came from guard
Brianna Wilber. The junior led Western in scoring on Friday night with 14 points.

WC (8-12, 6-10 RMAC) climbed back into the game after outscoring the Mountaineers 12-4 in the second quarter.

With Western's 28-27 first half lead, the Mountaineers have led at the half in four of the last six games.

The Griffins took control in the second half holding Western to just 18.75 percent (6-of-32) shooting from the field for the last 20 minutes.

The Mountaineers outrebounded WC 37-33 and grabbed 20 rebounds on the offensive glass.

The Griffins' Sicilee Williams led all players in scoring with 16 points.

Western will be on the road next weekend, traveling to Fort Lewis College on Friday before heading to Adams State University on Saturday.
