GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State Colorado University women's basketball ends the 2016-17 season this weekend at home against a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponents. The Mountaineers host No. 5 Colorado State University – Pueblo on Friday night at 5:30 p.m. and then at 5 p.m. on Saturday, New Mexico Highlands University comes to town.
Western (6-18, 5-15 RMAC) sits 13
th in the RMAC standings. However, it's the most wins by the Mountaineer women's basketball team since the 2013-14 season when Western also recorded six wins. With two games left, they have a chance to record the most season wins in five years.
Point guard
Brianna Wilber will lead the Mountaineer offensive charge as she leads the team in scoring, averaging 8.5 points per game.
After defeating Adams State University 80-71 two weeks ago, the Mountaineers fell at home to South Dakota School of Mines & Technology last week.
Friday's opponent, CSU-Pueblo (25-1, 19-1 RMAC) will be a tough test for the Mountaineers. The Thunderwolves are ranked fifth in Division II and recently clinched the RMAC regular season title.
After losing their first game of the season on Feb. 10, CSU-Pueblo defeated Colorado Christian University 80-72 last week.
The Thunderwolves are leading the conference in scoring, averaging 74 points per game. Tuileisu Anderson contributes 16.6 of those points per game, which ranks second best in the RMAC.
On Saturday, prior to the start against NMHU (2-22, 1-19 RMAC), Western will honor four seniors playing the final games of their careers.

Sydnie Lengyel,
Sadie Stroup and
Harlie Williams will all be recognized for their contributions to the Western women's basketball team.
NMHU will also miss the conference tournament this season as they currently sit 14
th in the standings. The Cowgirls are on a 19-game losing streak and will face Colorado Mesa University on Friday night. The last NMHU win came on Dec. 2 against ASU, 77-62.
Kaylani Maiava leads the Cowgirls in scoring, averaging 12.5 points per game.
