GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State Colorado University's 
Ben Beauchamp scored 26 points Saturday night. However, the Mountaineers were unable to overcome Colorado State University – Pueblo's inside presence, falling 92-79.
 
It was a flurry of offense on Saturday as Western (3-9, 1-5 RMAC) hosted Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponent CSU-Pueblo (5-7, 2-4 RMAC).
 
Both teams shot over 50 percent from the field in the first half as the Thunderwolves pushed the ball to the post and Western kept a balanced offense.
 
At halftime, the score was tied, 40-40.
 
Ben Beauchamp led Western with 26 points, scoring five three-point shots on nine attempts. Beauchamp was 10-of-16 (62.5 percent) from the field on Saturday night.
 
CSU-Pueblo took control in the second half, and built their lead due to the play of their two post players Jason Anderson and Mika Nuolivirta. Anderson scored a game-high 36 points, while Nuolivirta added 20 more.
 
Western will be back on the court Dec. 30 against the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. The Mountaineers will host the Mountain Lions at 7 p.m. in Paul Wright Gym.
