GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Western State Colorado University women's basketball went undefeated this weekend at the Colorado Mesa University Holiday Inn-Airport Thanksgiving Classic. After Friday's win over Northern New Mexico College, the Mountaineers took care of St. Edward's University 54-46 on Saturday.

Western (3-3, 0-0 RMAC) won their second straight game to end the non-conference schedule on Saturday. The Mountaineers scored 27-of-54 (50 percent) points off turnovers against SEU (3-4, 0-0 Heartland).

Keelie Lawler led the Mountaineer offense against the Hilltoppers. Lawler led all players in scoring with 15 points, while teammate
Tammarrah Gothard added 10 points.

 Lawler also recorded a game-high five assists and grabbed a team-high five rebounds. Gothard's intense defensive pressure allowed her to record a game-high nine steals.

After a tightly contested first quarter, the Mountaineers distanced themselves from SEU in the second quarter. Western outscored the Hilltoppers 18-12 in the second to take a 29-22 lead at the half.

SEU got one point back in the third quarter, but Western was able to hold on in the fourth, winning their third of the season, 54-46.

The only time SEU led during Saturday's game came at the 1:24 mark of the first quarter. A jumper by Gothard with 17 seconds left in the quarter erased the Hilltopper lead and Western held the lead for the rest of the game.

Western will return to Grand Junction, Colorado on Tuesday night to face Colorado Mesa University at 5:30 p.m. in the first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game of the season.
