WBB | No. 4 Seawolves slide past Mountaineers

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Western State Colorado University women's basketball ended the Seawolf Hoops Classic on Saturday against host school, the No. 4 ranked University of Alaska Anchorage. The Mountaineers were unable to upset Anchorage, falling 54-82.

Despite a stifling UAA (5-0, 0-0 GNAC) defense, Western (1-3, 0-0 RMAC) true-freshman Katie Dalton was 50 percent (7-of-14) shooting from the field, scoring a team-high 15 points.

Jessie Erickson, also a true-freshman, added 10 points for the Mountaineers and grabbed a team-high four rebounds.

The Mountaineers stayed right with the Seawolves in the first quarter. Western trailed AAU by just two points with four minutes remaining and held the Seawolves without a field goal in the final 2:30 of the quarter. AAU took a 15-11 lead into the second quarter.

Hannah Wandersee led AAU in scoring with 16 points. Wandersee was named the Seawolf Hoops Classic Most Outstanding Player of the tournament.

Mountaineer guard Tammarrah Gothard was also named to the 2017 Seawolf Hoops Classic All-Tournament Team.

The AAU defense cause havoc for the Mountaineer offense. The Seawolves turned 30 Western turnovers into 35 points.

Western will continue the season next weekend in Grand Junction, Colorado at the CMU Holiday Inn – Airport Thanksgiving Classic.
