GUNNISON, Colo. – This weekend, the Western State Colorado University men's basketball team will host the third annual Comfort Inn Classic in Paul Wright Gym. The tournament consists of four games between four teams and begins Friday night at 5:30 p.m.

Western (0-2, 0-0 RMAC) hosts Colorado Mesa University (0-2, 0-0 RMAC), Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (3-1, 0-0 CalPac), and Midwestern State University (0-2, 0-0 LSC).

CMU opens the Comfort Inn Classic against MSU at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Mountaineers and Embry-Riddle will follow at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, CMU and Western will swap opponents with the Mavericks facing Embry-Riddle at 5 p.m. and Western going against MSU at 7 p.m.

All games will be played in Paul Wright Gym.

The Comfort Inn Classic games will be the first home competitions for the Mountaineers this season. It will also be the first games against non-ranked opponents after opening the season against two top-25 teams.

Senior forward
Collin Smith is leading the Mountaineer offense through the first two games of the season. Smith is averaging 16 points per game, scoring 21 against No. 11 University of Texas – Permian Basin and 11 against No. 21 West Texas A&M University.

As a team, Western is shooting 43 percent (52-of-121) from the field and averaging 71 points per game. The Mountaineers are second in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference for free-throw percentage, making 79.2 percent (19-of-24) from the charity stripe.
