WSOC | Mountaineers in Denver for the weekend

GUNNISON, Colo. – Two more matches on the road this weekend awaits Western State Colorado University women's soccer. The Mountaineers will first travel to Colorado Christian University for a 1:30 p.m. match on Friday before a 2:30 p.m. match on Sunday at the sixth ranked Colorado School of Mines.

Western (4-5-1, 3-3 RMAC) will look to get back in the win column after falling to UC-Colorado Springs 0-1 last Sunday on the road.

With six matches left in the season, the Mountaineers are tied with two other teams for seventh place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings. Five of Western's final six opponents are ahead of them in the standings. Colorado Christian University is the only opponent left currently below the Mountaineers in the conference standings.

Paige Massey has been leading the Mountaineer scoring attack. Massey has scored a team-high three goals this season, which ranks tied for fifth best in the RMAC.

Supporting Massey on the offensive end is Ingrid Alvarez. The junior midfielder leads the team with three assists and is tied with Massey for the team lead in points with seven. Her three assists ties for third best in the conference.

Friday will be the seventh meeting between Western and CCU (4-7-1, 1-5-1 RMAC). The Mountaineers have an overall record of 2-1-3 against the Cougars, and a 1-1-1 record against them on the road. The past two matches between the two schools has ended in a 0-0 draw.

CCU enters the weekend tied for 11th in the conference standings. The Cougars lost their last match, 0-2, against Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Friday's match will be just the fourth home match of the season for CCU. They have a 1-2 home record this season.

Leading the Cougars offensively is Alyssa Regalado and Lauren Cardoza. Each have two goals and two assists this season to lead the team with six points.

Friday's match will also fall on Homecoming weekend for CCU.

On Sunday, Western will face No. 6 Colorado School of Mines. It will be the sixth meeting between the two schools. Last season, the two schools split the series as Western upset the third ranked Oredigeers 3-2 in Gunnison, before CSM defeated the Mountaineers 5-1 in Golden, Colorado during the first round of the RMAC Tournament.

The Orediggers have a 4-1 series lead and are 3-0 at home against the Mountaineers.

This year CSM is 4-0 at home, winning by an average of three goals a game. The Orediggers have yet to surrender a goal in Golden.

CSM is currently second in the RMAC standings, having played one less match than No. 17 Regis University.

After tying Regis 1-1 in September, the Orediggers have won their last five matches. The only blemish on their record came against Texas Woman's University in the first match of the season.

Jennifer Kendall leads the Oredigger offensive charge, having scored six goals this season, second in the conference.

CSM will host UCCS on Friday night before Sunday's match against Western.
