GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State Colorado University women's basketball sharp shooters were on full display on Saturday. The Mountaineers defeated Chadron State College 75-70 in Paul Wright Gym.

Western (4-9, 3-6 RMAC) shot a season high 51.1 percent from the field (24-of-47) to defeat Chadron State (3-10, 3-7 RMAC). The Mountaineers' 75 points scored was also a season high.

Even more impressive, the Western offense made nine three-pointers while shooting 56.3 percent from beyond the arc (9-of-16).

Leading the Western scoring attack was
Sadie Stroup. Stroup made all five of her three-point attempts, scoring a season high 16 points.

After falling behind 20-16 in the first quarter, the Mountaineers took a 37-32 lead into halftime. Western outscored the Eagles 21-12 in the second quarter.

Chadron climbed back into the game and trailed by just one point heading into the fourth quarter. However, Western went on a 9-0 run from the 4:18 mark to the 2:25 mark in the fourth quarter, and distanced themselves from Chadron.

 With the win, Western moves just one game out of eighth place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Also scoring in double figures on Saturday was
Kaylynn Bush and
Madison Cruse. Bush scored 14 points, while Cruse added 13.

Erin Graham led the Eagles in scoring with 14 points.

Mountaineer forward
Katie Najvar was just one point and two rebounds away from a double-double, scoring nine points and grabbing eight rebounds.

The Mountaineers will be on the road next week, traveling to Colorado Christian University and Colorado School of Mines.
