GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State Colorado University women's basketball got out to a fast start Friday night against Regis University. However, the Mountaineers were unable to stop a late Ranger run, falling to Regis 72-53.

Western (3-9, 2-6 RMAC) started the game with a 6-2 run over Regis (11-2, 6-2 RMAC). It would be the Mountaineers' largest lead of the game.

The Mountaineers and Rangers traded baskets for the rest of the first quarter and were tied at 17 points heading into the second quarter.

Regis made their move in the second, putting seven points between themselves and the Mountaineers before halftime. At the break, the Rangers led Western 35-28.

Center Kaylie Rader was a force for the Rangers in the paint all night long. Rader led all players in scoring with 21 points. Teammate Mary Sigler also scored in double-digits for Regis, adding 15 points.

The Mountaineers were unable to break the Ranger deficit in the second half as the Rangers outscored Western 19-13 in the third quarter and 18-12 in the fourth quarter.

Harlie Williams led Western in scoring with 11 points. As a team, Western had a good night shooting, making 41.5 percent of their shots from the field.

Western also had three players net seven points on Friday night.

Katie Najvar and
Sydnie Lengyel each added seven.

The Mountaineers scored 26 of their 53 points (49.1 percent) off the bench against the Rangers.

Western will be back on the court tomorrow against the Chadron State College Eagles in Paul Wright Gym.
