SPEARFISH, S.D. – With one second remaining in the game, Western State Colorado University's
Sadie Stroup hit a game-winning three point shot. The Mountaineers defeated Black Hills State 59-56 in dramatic fashion on Saturday night.

After a missed three-point opportunity by BHSU (8-12, 8-8 RMAC), Western (5-14, 4-11 RMAC) called timeout with two seconds remaining in the game.

Sadie Stroup came off a screen as
Kaylynn Bush passed her the ball. Stroup launched a three-point shot as the buzzer sounded in Spearfish, South Dakota. The ball went through the hoop, and the Mountaineers left with a 59-56 victory.

Stroup led the Mountaineers in scoring with 18 points on Saturday, making four three-point field goals.

Western's offense was firing on all cylinders, as the team shot 43.8 percent from the field for the game (21-of-48).

The Mountaineers were able to use a first half lead to clinch the victory. Western outscored BHSU 13-12 in the first quarter and then really put some distance between the two teams, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 20-12 in the second quarter.

BHSU attempted to make a comeback, outscoring Western 14-11 in the third quarter. However, Western still led 44-38 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Yellow Jackets would take the lead in the fourth quarter, 54-51, midway through. However, an 8-2 run to end the game gave Western the victory.

Western forward
Harlie Williams was just two rebounds short of a double-double. Williams recorded 13 points and eight rebounds.

Rachel Erickson led BHSU in scoring with 18 points.

Western has a quick turnaround as they travel to Colorado Mesa University on Tuesday, Jan. 31 in Grand Junction Colorado.
