WBB | Mountaineers looking to extend win streak this weekend

GUNNISON, Colo. – The Mountaineers of Western State Colorado University women's basketball head to the front range for a pair of road games this weekend. Western will face Colorado Christian University on Friday night before traveling to Golden, Colorado for a Saturday game against Colorado School of Mines. Both games are scheduled for 5 p.m.
 
Western (4-9, 3-6 RMAC) is coming off an impressive 75-70 win over Chadron State College on Saturday. It was the Mountaineers' highest offensive output on the season.
 
The win puts Western 12th in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Standings, leaving the Mountaineers 1.5 games out of eighth place. The top eight teams make the RMAC tournament at the end of the season.
 
Leading Western in scoring and rebounding is forward Harlie Williams. The senior is averaging 9.5 points per game and is grabbing 4.8 rebounds per game. Williams is also averaging 2.4 three-point field goals per game, which ranks fourth best in the RMAC.
 
Friday night's opponent, CCU (6-8, 4-5 RMAC) is one of the two teams tied for eighth place in the conference standings.
 
The Cougars also enter Friday's game coming off a victory. CCU defeated Westminster College 69-46 on the road for their third win in four games.
 
CCU boasts an efficient offense, shooting 40.4 percent from the field. That shooting percentage ranks fifth best in the conference.
 
Alex Nelson leads the Cougar offense, averaging 13.4 points per game.
 
Colorado Mines (9-9, 5-4 RMAC) sits sixth in the RMAC standings, two games ahead of the Mountaineers. The Orediggers snapped a three-game losing streak last Saturday by defeating Westminster 77-58.
 
CSM will host Colorado Mesa on Friday night before Western comes to Golden.
 
The Orediggers are the fourth highest scoring team in the conference, averaging 68.6 points per game.
 
Individually, Emily Bailey leads the CSM team in scoring. Bailey averages 12.1 points per game for the Orediggers.
 
Saturday's against CSM will mark the midway point of Western's conference schedule.
