GUNNISON, Colo. - On Friday night in Gunnison, Western State Colorado University Athletics will once again honor and remember some of the greatest athletic accomplishments by student-athletes at the 22nd Mountaineer Sports Hall of Fame (MSHOF). Enshrining these former Mountaineer student-athletes and their accomplishments will be Western professor of Communication Arts and Chair of Communication Arts, Languages and Literature, Dr. Terry Schliesman. The banquet gets underway with a social hour beginning at 5:30 p.m. and dinner beginning at 7 p.m. in the Mountaineer Field House.

Schliesman will emcee the banquet and ceremony which will include the induction of former Mountaineers Mary Ann Anderson (Zeylmaker), James Hawkins, Jerry Hollingshead, Dennis Leck, Domonic Martinez and Lifetime Athletic Achievement Award recipient Ed Ali.

Starting at Western State Colorado University in 1998, Terry Schliesman has served in the Communication Arts program as professor of Communication, General Manager of KWSB 91.1, and the the Chair of the Communication Arts, Languages and Literature Department. Prior to higher education, he worked in radio broadcasting in the northwest. His research interests have included speech anxiety, media effects, CMC, and strategic communication. In addition to Western, Dr. Schliesman has taught at Washington State University and Oregon Tech, in the topics of writing, speech, advocacy and persuasion, PR and advertising, campaign design, media effects, broadcasting, issues management, audio production, semiotics, communication theory and methodology, conflict management, small group communication, and applied interpersonal communication.

Terry and wife Laura have raised three children in Gunnison; Alex, Leanne and Greg. Away from work, the Schliesmans enjoy boating, camping, hiking, fly-fishing, skiing, and canvassing the Western Slope watching the kids compete in sports.

Dr. Schliesman has been a long-time volunteer and friend of Mountaineer Athletics. Whether it be announcing countless competitions or helping along press row, Schliesman has seen some of the most memorable moments in Western history.
