ALAMOSA, Colo. – Western State Colorado University women's soccer defeated Adams State University on Friday afternoon without even scoring a goal. The Mountaineers earned a 1-0 victory after a Grizzlies' own goal.

Western (4-4-1, 2-2 RMAC) and ASU (5-4, 2-3 RMAC) were just three seconds away from heading into halftime with a scoreless tie. However, the Grizzlies put the ball in the back of the net, giving the Mountaineers the only lead they would need.

It is the fourth straight victory for Western over their rivals to the south. The Mountaineers haven't lost to the Grizzlies since Western's inaugural season in 2012.

The Mountaineers recorded three shots each in both half, putting five shots on net. All six shots were recorded by six different players.

Katie Simpson-Johnson made five saves to preserve Western's fourth shutout as a team and her third in net.

The win gives the Mountaineers six conference points, which ties seven other teams for the third most in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Western returns home on Sunday to host Fort Lewis College at 1 p.m. on Gateway Field.
