GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Western State Colorado University women's soccer fell on the road Sunday to Colorado Mesa University. The Mavericks converted on a penalty kick in the 71
st minute to win the match 1-0.

Western (3-4-1, 1-2 RMAC) was unable to overcome CMU (4-3-1, 2-1 RMAC) on the road. The Mavericks outshot the Mountaineers 12-3 on Sunday.

After a close played first half, both offenses were on the attack in the second half. Freshman
Andrea Grillo had one of the better opportunities for the Mountaineers. In the 66
th minute, Grillo earned a shot but put it just wide of the target.

In the 71
st minute, the center official called a penalty in the box for the Mavericks, resulting in a penalty kick. CMU converted and rode the one goal lead for the final 19 minutes of the match.
