WSOC | Western suffers first defeat of 2016

BILLINGS, Mont. – Western State Colorado University women's soccer suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday against San Francisco State University. The Mountaineers fell 2-0 to the Gators.

Western (2-1-1, 0-0 RMAC) fell behind 1-0 to SFSU (2-1-1, 0-0 CCAA) in the 30th minute after a goal by Natasha Gosiaco. It was the first goal allowed by the Mountaineers in 2016.

The Gators added another just before half in the 43rd minute. Kimber Lohman scored this goal after a through ball slipped through the Western defense.

After a challenging first half, the Mountaineer offense came alive in the second, putting together seven shots.

Mountaineer midfielder Ingrid Alvarez (So., Aurora, Colorado) had the best scoring opportunity of the match for Western. Alvarez's shot from 20-yards out around the 70th minute beat the keeper but rattled of the cross bar.

Western keeper Katie Simpson-Johnson (Jr., Boulder, Colorado) made five saves in the match.

The Mountaineers will return home for their final non-conference match of the season on Friday. Western will host Angelo State University at 3 p.m. on Gateway Field.
