COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –
Brianna Wilber led all players on Friday night with 16 points for Western State Colorado University women's basketball. However, the Mountaineers were unable to overcome the Mountain Lions of University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, falling 47-67.

After outscoring UCCS (9-4, 6-1 RMAC) 16-14 in the third quarter, Western (3-8, 2-5 RMAC) was unable to overcome a late fourth-quarter run by the Mountain Lions. UCCS outscored the Mountaineers 21-9 in the final period.

In the final game of 2016, Western got out to a fast start and led UCCS 15-12 at the 1:53 mark of the first quarter. Although the Mountain Lions finished the first with a 5-0 run, the Mountaineers trailed by just two points, 15-17 heading into the second quarter.

The second quarter went the way of the Mountain Lions and Western went into the break trailing UCCS 32-22.

Harlie Williams also scored in double figures for the Mountaineers. Williams scored 12 points, making three three-pointers and tied for a game-high five rebounds.

Western's defense did a good job holding the conference's third leading scorer, Brittany Hernandez in check all game, allowing her just 11 points. Hernandez entered the game averaging 16.6 points per game.

Tori Fischer led the Mountain Lions in scoring with 14 points.

The Mountaineers will continue the season Jan. 6 when they host Regis University at 5:30 p.m. in Paul Wright Gym.
