PUEBLO, Colo. – Western State Colorado University hung close to No. 9 Colorado State University – Pueblo on Saturday night on the road. However, the Thunderwolves were able to pull away late, winning 63-43.
Western (3-7, 2-4 RMAC) stayed within striking distance in the first half. Despite only five players reaching the scoring column, the Mountaineers trailed Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference leaders CSU-Pueblo (12-0, 6-0 RMAC) by just nine points at halftime.
After losing the third quarter to the Thunderwolves, 19-9, the Mountaineers fought to get offense generated in the final stanza. Western scored 16 points in the fourth, the highest offensive output for the Mountaineers. However, the Thunderwolves matched Western in the fourth and the comeback fell short.
Leading the second half charge for Western was
Brianna Wilber. The junior scored seven of her team high 10 points in the final 20 minutes.
CSU-Pueblo's Molly Rohrer led all players in scoring with 16 points.
Western returns to the court on Dec. 30 in Colorado Springs, Colorado at 5:30 p.m. against UC-Colorado Springs.
