LAS VEGAS, N.M. –  Western State Colorado University women's basketball earned a second conference win, imposing their will upon the Cowgirls of New Mexico Highlands University of Friday night. The Mountaineers won the road game 67-54.

Western (3-6, 2-3 RMAC) led for much of the game and solidified the victory in the fourth, holding NMHU (2-7, 1-4 RMAC) scoreless for 6:04 during the final stanza.

The Mountaineers got our to an early 20-16 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game, and were able to fend-off the Cowgirls charge in the second quarter. Western took a 33-27 lead into the break.

Leading the charge for the Mountaineers was forward
Katie Najvar. Scoring a career high 15, the forward led the game in scoring and gave Western their second conference win this season.

Western's offense shined as they scored nearly half of their points (32-of-67) in the paint on Friday night.

On defense, Western managed to hold the Cowgirls to 39.2 percent (20-of-51) shooting from the field. In contrast, the Mountaineers shot 51.0 percent (26-of-51) for the game.

Two other Mountaineers made it into double figures on Friday night. Leading scorer,
Harlie Williams added 13 points, while teammate
Sadie Stroup scored 11 in Western's win.

The Mountaineers will now travel to play the league leading Colorado State University – Pueblo Thunderwolves on Saturday. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. in Massari Arena.
