WBB | Williams nets 13 against Skyhawks

GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State Colorado University women's basketball fell just short against Fort Lewis College on Saturday evening in Gunnison, Colorado. The Skyhawks defeated the Mountaineers 56-39.

Western (2-6, 1-3 RMAC) was paced by forwards Katie Najvar and Harlie Williams. Najvar was just one point shy of a double-double, recording a game-high 12 rebounds and scoring nine points. Williams tied for a game high 13 points scored.

Western and Fort Lewis played a tight first quarter as each team battled for control of the game. However, after the first 10 minutes, only one point separated the two teams. Western went into the second quarter trailing FLC 12-13.

Both teams' defenses buckled down in the second quarter as only 14 points were scored. Unfortunately for the Mountaineers, the Skyhawks scored nine of those points.

Western's defense held the Skyhawks to just 25 percent (7-of-28) shooting from the field in the first half.

In the second half, the Mountaineers were unable to cut into the Skyhawk lead. FLC outscored Western by five points in both of the final two quarters.

Leading FLC in scoring on Saturday night was Briana Clah and Kayla Herrera. Both scored 13 points.

The Mountaineers will be back on the court next weekend when they travel to New Mexico Highlands University and Colorado State University – Pueblo.
