DENVER, Colo. – Western State Colorado University women's soccer team fell to Regis University, six to one, in Denver Friday afternoon. The Mountaineers look to recover against MSU-Denver Sunday at noon.
Â
Western started things off looking like the score would be swapped, scoring quickly off of an
Ingrid Alvarez goal in the top corner in the fourth minute. The Mountaineers moved the ball quickly up the side, as
Jessica Kresl found
Katie Desch near the top of the box, who crossed in to
Courtnee Urrea. Urrea found Alvarez just to her left, recording her first assist of the season.
Â
After that the tides turned, as the Rangers height and speed proved too much to handle. The Rangers would rally off two goals in the first half to take the early lead, then open up the scoring with four unanswered goals in the second half.
Â
Corner kicks and shots on goal were the difference in the game, as the Rangers scored three goals off of nine corner kicks and 11 shots on goal. The Mountaineers only had a single corner kick and five shots on goal.
Â
The score matches the most goals scored against Western, going back to the second game in school history on the same field against Regis.
