DENVER, Colo. – After 70 minutes of play, MSU-Denver scored two back-to-back goals to take their final lead, defeating Western State Colorado University women's soccer team 2-0 in Denver Sunday afternoon.

The Mountaineers put on the pressure the entire first half, earning four corner kicks with one shot on goal. They held their opponent to just two shots on goal in the first half, but could not connect on set plays to push the score.

Twenty-five minutes into the second half the Roadrunners earned a corner kick, Emily Romer knocked the header into the top of the goal to open scoring. Four minutes later Brenda Vazquez won a ball up the left sideline and put a ball across the box into the top corner of the net.

As of 2 p.m. MT the Mountaineers are 10
th in the conference. With Westminster College ineligible for postseason contest, Western finds themselves one spot out of the conference tournament with two games remaining. Western will look to earn the needed points against N.M. Highlands Friday at 3 p.m., then again for senior night against CSU-Pueblo Sunday at 1 p.m. Adams State, Colorado Christian and Fort Lewis all are above Western in the standings, but will play each other and conference leading Colorado Mines.
