GUNNISON – Western State Colorado University women's volleyball team will head north to South Dakota to take on South Dakota School of Mines and Black Hills State University this weekend. The Mountaineers will take on the Hardrockers Friday at 7 p.m., then head to Spearfish to take on the Yellowjackets at 5:30 p.m.

Western is coming off of a split weekend where they took No.22-ranked Colorado School of Mines to four sets, then defeated Colorado Christian University in four. The Mountaineers (9-9, 5-5 RMAC) are currently tied for seventh with Adams State University and CSU-Pueblo.

The Mountaineers have lately been led by middle
Molly Hothan. Hothan recorded 20 kills and a .750 hitting percentage against Christian, tying the single-match hitting percentage record for the second time this season. She is fourth in the conference in hitting percentage with a .304, and is second in the conference in conference play with a .368 hitting percentage.

Also for the Mountaineers,
Tori Gaherty is eighth in total kills this season in the conference. The senior is averaging 3.31 kills per set. Setter
Allison Walker is seventh in assists per set with 9.87.

Defensively,
Avery Burkholder is dominating up front, averaging .93 blocks per set. She is eighth in the conference in blocks per set. Behind her,
Amanda Maestas is ninth in the conference with 4.44 digs per set.

Maestas looks to make history, as she needs just 10 digs to tie the Mountaineer digs career record. She has had double-digit digs in every match this season.
