GUNNISON, Colo. – Heading into Sunday's match, No. 3 Colorado School of Mines had only one loss on the season. It took 105 minutes, but Western State Colorado University women's soccer handed the Orediggers their second loss. The Mountaineers won 3-2 in double overtime.

Ingrid Alvarez provided the game winner for Western (5-6-2, 3-4-1 RMAC). Alvarez passed wide-left to
Andrea Grillo before getting the ball back from Grillo just inside the 18-yard box and pushing it past the CSM keeper for the golden goal in the 105
th minute.

It was the first goal of the season for Alvarez, and second game winner of her career.

Sunday's win over the third ranked Orediggers was the biggest upset in program history for the Mountaineers. Western had previously defeated the fifth ranked Fort Lewis College Skyhawks in 2013.

"(The game) was really great, the team was so excited," Western Head Coach
Amy Bell said. "We just want to build on this win."

The Mountaineers were forced to come from behind twice in the match against CSM (12-2, 7-2 RMAC). The Orediggers scored the first goal in the 35
th minute, as Jaclyn Knott netted her fifth of the season.

Grillo responded with a goal of her own in the 42
nd minute after coming off the bench in at the 28:22 mark of the first half. It was Grillo's third goal of the season and led the match with three points. Grillo also leads the team season in total points with eight.

After a 1-1 tied at halftime, CSM took another lead in the 58
th minute. This time it was Brooke Stoermer scoring the goal for Mines. Stoermer scored her third of the season, heading it into the net after a cross from Taylor McRae found the midfielder.

With time running out in regulation, coach Bell moved center defender
Izzy Engeman into the attack. Engeman scored the game-tying goal, breaking away from the defense and putting the ball into the back of the net with just over six minutes left in the second half.

The Orediggers outshot the Mountaineers 18-11 in the match.

The win moves Western into ninth place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference standings with four matches remaining. The Mountaineers are five points behind the sixth place Fort Lewis. The top six teams make the conference tournament.

The Mountaineers will be on the road next weekend at Regis University and Metro State University Denver. Western will return home for the final two regular season matches on the weekend of Oct. 28.
