GUNNISON, Colo. – It took 110 minutes, but Western State Colorado University women's soccer recorded the fifth shutout of the season on Friday afternoon at home. Goalie
Katie Simpson-Johnson also earned her fourth shutout of the season as Western and Colorado Christian University played to a scoreless draw.

Western (4-6-2, 2-4-1 RMAC) outshot CCU (5-6-2, 2-4-2 RMAC) 13-11 in the match after the two teams combined for three shots in the first half.

The Mountaineers' best opportunities came late in the match. Western midfielder
Paige Massey provided a scare for the Cougars as a point blank shot in the 89
th minute nearly got past keeper Shaya Lawrence.

Western dominated the second overtime, outshooting CCU 3-0. One of those shots by
Andrea Grillo in the 106
th minute looked to be the match winner. However, again Lawrence denied the Mountaineers a goal, preserving the draw.

Eight different Mountaineers recorded shots in Friday's match. Western center midfielder
Francesca Rand led the team in shots with three, putting two on frame.

CCU's Alyssa Regalado led the match in total shots, recording four.

With the draw, the Mountaineers now have seven conference points and sit alone in 10
th place. Western is six points – two wins – behind sixth place Adams State University. The top six teams make the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament.

Western hosts No. 3 Colorado School of Mines this Sunday at 1 p.m. on Gateway Field. The Mountaineers have five matches remaining, with three being played at Gateway Field.
