WBB | Long scores double-double in Western loss

GUNNISON, Colo. - Western State Colorado University women's basketball student-athlete Taylor Long (So., Moreno Valley, California) scored her second career double-double Friday night. Despite the individual effort, the Mountaineers came up short against Western New Mexico University. Western fell to the Lady Mountaineers 63-39.

After going into halftime down only two points, 32-30, Western (3-7, 1-7 RMAC) was unable to keep pace with WNMU (6-7, 4-4 RMAC) in the second half. The Mountaineers were outscored 31-9 in the final two quarters.

Long earned her double-double by scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds for the Mountaineers. Long's first double-double came earlier this season on Dec. 5 against Colorado State University - Pueblo.

After a slow start to the game, Western found themselves down 11-0 to begin the game. However, the Mountaineers went on a 16-4 run to take the lead at the beginning of the second quarter. Western would extend their lead to four points, their largest lead of the game at the 7:29 mark of the second quarter.

WNMU's Jade Botelho led all players in scoring with 15 points.

The Mountaineers will be back in action tomorrow night when they host New Mexico Highlands University at 5 p.m. in Paul Wright Gym.
