GUNNISON – Western State Colorado University defeated Western New Mexico University, 93-64, Friday evening in Paul Wright Gymnasium. The Mountaineers take on New Mexico Highlands University tomorrow evening at 7 p.m.

The Mountaineers (3-11, 2-6 RMAC) spread the ball out to the entire team, with six players recording two or more assists. Everyone prospered from the selfless passing, as six Mountaineers scored nine or more points.

Ben Beauchamp led all scorers with 15 points, a dozen of which came from beyond the arc.
Danny Hopkins recorded his second double-double of the season, recording a dozen rebounds and 14 points.
C.J. Schutt also added 14 points, hitting five of seven from the field and four of four from the foul line.
Ray Beresford chipped in 10 points, while
Will Duggan and
James Thomas had nine apiece.

Western outshot its opponent 47 percent to 32. The Mountaineers scored 21 second chance points and 32 points in the paint on the way to victory.
