Box Score DENVER, Colo. – Western State Colorado University men's basketball team fell to Regis University Sunday afternoon in Denver, 93-73. The Mountaineers return home to take on New Mexico Highlands and Western New Mexico University next weekend in Paul Wright Gymnasium.
The Rangers climbed to a quick 10-2 lead in the first quarter, extending the lead to as much as 15. The Mountaineers, charged by 14 first half bench points, shrunk the lead to seven with two minutes remaining. The Rangers pushed the lead back to 15, 43-28, with three deep shots in the final minute.
In the second half the Rangers' shooting went off for 14 total buckets, as the team made half of its shots from deep. Jarrett Brodbeck and Billy Hansen combined for 34 points, sinking a combined nine treys.
For the Mountaineers,
C.J. Schutt had a career-high 27 points down low. Schutt was 10 for 13 from the field and made all seven free throws he attempted. He also led the team with eight rebounds.
Ben Beauchamp added 15.
The Mountaineers bench stepped up for 42 total points, 36 in the paint.
