WBB | Western travels west for pair of RMAC games

GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State Colorado University women's basketball will continue their four-game road trip this weekend. The Mountaineers will travel to Salt Lake City, Utah for a showdown with Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference newcomer Westminster College on Friday. Western will then face Colorado Mesa University on their way back to Colorado on Saturday night.

Western (4-11, 2-11 RMAC) is coming off two losses on the road last weekend to Colorado Christian University and the Colorado School of Mines. With nine games remaining for the Mountaineers, Western sits sixth in the RMAC's Mountain Division.

Leading the way for the Mountaineers is sophomore guard Taylor Long (So., Moreno Valley, California). Long is averaging 13.1 points per game, which ranks tied for ninth best in the conference. Averaging 7.3 rebounds per game, Long has recorded two double-doubles on the year and almost a third last weekend, falling one point shy against Colorado Mines.

Newcomer Westminster (6-11, 3-10 RMAC) is currently in the cellar of the tough RMAC Rocky Division. The Griffins enter Friday's game on a three-game losing streak.

Westminster has two players averaging over double figures in scoring. Denise Gonzales leads the charge at 10.6 points per game, while teammate Natalie Parsons averages 10.2 points per game. Both are in the top-25 of scoring in the RMAC.

Western slope rival CMU (11-6, 8-5 RMAC) will face Colorado State University – Pueblo on Friday night before welcoming the Mountaineers on Saturday. The Mavericks are fourth in the RMAC's Rocky Division, two games out of first place.

CMU is led by the conference's second leading scorer Bryanna Adams. Adams is averaging 17.6 points per game. As a team the Mavericks average more three-point field goals made per game than any other team in the RMAC at 9.1.
