WBB | Mountaineers stay strong against Orediggers

GOLDEN, Colo. – Western State Colorado University's Harlie Williams (Jr., Norwood, Colorado) tied for a game high 13 points on Saturday night against Colorado School of Mines. Unfortunately for the Mountaineers, the Orediggers were able to come away with the 68-48 victory.
 
Western (4-11, 2-11 RMAC) led for most of the first quarter against CSM (14-1, 12-1 RMAC). The Mountaineers were ahead 8-4 with 3:37 remaining in the quarter. The Orediggers went on an 11-3 run to end the quarter, taking a 15-11 lead into the second quarter.
 
In the second quarter, the Mountaineers again had a lead at 25-23 with 2:13 left to play in the half. Again, the Orediggers came back and scored four unanswered points to take a 27-25 lead into the halftime break.
 
The Mountaineers were able to keep it close through the first half of the third quarter. However, CSM took control and finished the quarter ahead, 44-36.
 
Western was unable to cut the Orediggers' lead in the fourth quarter and fell by a score of 68-48.
 
Williams tied for the most points in the game with CSM's Cassidy Budge. Each scored 13 points.
 
Taylor Long (So., Moreno Valley, California) nearly recorded a double-double for Western. Long grabbed 10 rebounds and nine points on Saturday.
 
Western will continue on their road trip next Friday against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference newcomer Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah.
