MBB | Cougars deep shooting holds off Mountaineers

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Western State Colorado University men's basketball team dropped a shootout, 99-89 to Colorado Christian University Friday evening in Lakewood. The Mountaineers hope to bounce back to face Colorado School of Mines tomorrow evening at 7 p.m. in Golden.
 
The game featured 24 total made three point shots. Both teams shot well from deep, with the Cougars (8-10, 4-8 RMAC) taking the advantage 48 percentage to 36. Christian also had the overall shooting advantage at 55 percentage to 48.
 
Ben Beauchamp led the charge for the Mountaineers (4-14. 3-9 RMAC), scoring 21 points, 15 from beyond the arc. He was five of 11 from deep for 45 percent, and also finished with five rebounds and six assists.
 
Coming off the bench to start the second half, Chances Matlock shot a perfect five for five from deep for 17 total points. He also led the team with seven rebounds.
 
Also for the Mountaineers, C.J. Schutt had 12 points and was a perfect six of six from the free throw line. He also tore down six boards. Danny Hopkins chipped in 14 points and six assists.
 
A trio of Cougars were the difference in the game, led by Zach McLemore. McLemore scored a game-high 28 points, shooting six of 13 from deep and dishing out five assists. Ty McGee was next in line with 22 points, shooting nine of 12 from the floor and tearing down nine boards while adding five steals. Jeremiah Hanson finished out the trio with 19 points and six boards.
