CHADRON, Neb. – Western State Colorado University women's basketball started the new year in Chadron, Nebraska. The Mountaineers played the Chadron State College Eagles close in the first half, but a third quarter run by the Eagles decided the game as they defeated the Mountaineers 69-50.

Western (3-5, 1-5 RMAC) and CSC (3-8, 2-5 RMAC) were neck-and-neck in the first quarter. The Mountaineers took a 12-10 lead at the 2:37 mark in the first before the Eagles ended the quarter with a 7-2 run to finish the first quarter ahead, 17-14.

The second quarter was much of the same as neither team was able to get any breathing room. At the halftime break, Western trailed CSC by only one point 28-29.

Western was kept in the game due in large part to the scoring output from sophomore guard
Carra Jackson-Brown (So., Denver, Colorado). Jackson-Brown scored 11 of her team high 13 points in the first half.

The Eagles opened the second half with a 9-2 run to gain some separation. From that point on, CSC outscored the Mountaineers 16-8 to take a 54-38 lead into the fourth quarter.

CSC continued their run in the fourth quarter and came away with an 69-50 win.

Eagles' guard Emma Block led all players in scoring with 21 points.

Western will look to bounce back tomorrow as they travel to Denver, Colorado to face Regis University at 1 p.m. from the Regis Fieldhouse.
