WBB | Western welcomes South Dakota schools this weekend

GUNNISON, Colo. – Looking to keep their home win streak alive, Western State Colorado University women's basketball welcomes Black Hills State University and South Dakota School of Mines and Technology to Paul Wright Gym over the weekend.
 
Saturday's game against SDSM&T is a red-out, so fans are encouraged to wear red in support of the Mountaineers. The first 300 students will also receive free red t-shirts for attending the game.
 
Western (4-7, 2-7 RMAC) is back on the court after defeating New Mexico Highlands University 65-60 in Paul Wright Gym last Saturday. The Mountaineers are ranked sixth in the Mountain Division of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).
 
Taylor Long (So., Moreno Valley, California) continues to lead Western in scoring, averaging 13.8 points per game, which ranks 10th best in the RMAC.
 
Looming at the top of the RMAC's other division, the Rocky Division, sits Western's opponent Friday night, Black Hills State University (11-2, 8-1 RMAC). The Yellow Jackets are currently riding a two-game winning streak after defeating Chadron State College and Regis University at home last weekend.
 
BHSU's leading scorer, Christine Thorn, is averaging the 16th most points per game in the RMAC at 11.6.
 
SDSM&T (6-7, 3-6 RMAC) makes their first visit to Gunnison on Saturday. The Hardrockers will first travel to play Colorado State University – Pueblo on Friday before making the journey to Paul Wright Gym. The 'Rockers are sixth in the RMAC's Rocky Division heading into the weekend.
 
Megan Rohrer leads SDSM&T in scoring, averaging 13.8 points per game, the same as Western's Long.
 
Western's four-game home stand is the longest of the season for the Mountaineers.
 
Friday night's game begins at 5:30 p.m., while Saturday's game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. in Paul Wright Gym.
