GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State Colorado University women's volleyball team have a busy week ahead of them, traveling a total of 663 miles for five matches. The Mountaineers begin the long week with a neutral match against Angelo State University Tuesday at noon in Colorado Springs, and end the week in the CSU-Pueblo/UCCS Steel and Silver Classic Friday and Saturday in Pueblo.
Western State will take on four of the top seven teams in the Lonestar Conference, beginning with Angelo State (4-0) and followed by Texas Women's College (3-1), Eastern New Mexico (2-2) and Tarleton State (4-0). The final opponent is Washburn University (4-0). The road will be tough, as the five opponents have a combined win/loss record of 17-3.
The Mountaineers (2-3) have shined early, combining for just under 10 kills per set and 27 total aces.
Jordan Eatwell (So., Fruita, Colo.) leads the team with 45 kills and has a .240 hitting percentage.
Allison Walker (Jr., Aurora, Colo.) has already eclipsed the century mark in assists with 114.
Defensively,
Amanda Maestas (Jr., Aurora, Colo.) has a team-high 82 digs and was named to the Peggy Martin Challenge All-Tournament team last weekend.
Molly Hothan (Jr., Ozawkie, Kan.) and
Avery Burkholder (Jr., Helotes, Texas) have commanded the net with 11 and nine total blocks, respectfully.
