This match recap is presented by MAA Corporate Partner 5 B's Bar-B-Q

GUNNISON, Colo. - After not allowing a first-half goal in the first three matches of the season, Western State Colorado University saw that streak come to an end on Sunday. However, the Mountaineers were able to match that goal and ended with a tie against Midwestern State University.

That first half opponent scoreless streak came to an end quickly as MSU (2-1-1, 0-0 LSC) scored in the second minute of the match. Luckily for Western (2-1-1 0-0 RMAC) the program's all-time leader in goals and points, Sadie Stark (Sr., Milliken, Colorado) was lingering around MSU's net. Stark responded just 1:30 later with her first goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1.

The Mountaineers kept pushing and scored again in the 27th minute. It was Jennifer Kahle (So., Colorado Springs, Colorado) scoring her team leading third goal of the season. Paige Massey (So., Fort Collins, Colorado) had the assist on the goal, passing to Kahle at the top of the 18-yard box. Kahle is now tied for second in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in goals scored.

Western held off MSU's advances for the rest of the first half. Western's goalkeeper Meghan Jedrzejewski (Sr., Longmont, Colorado) helped thwart those attacks, making 12 saves in the game.

MSU would score their second goal in the 57th minute. Aly Wade would score the goal for the Mustangs from the middle of the penalty box.

Western's Ingrid Alvarez (Fr., Aurora, Colorado) led all players in shots with five. Alvarez and Stark tied for the most shots on goal on Sunday with three each.

The Mountaineers will begin conference play this Friday when they host Metro State University Denver at 3 p.m. on Friday at Gateway Field.
