LAS VEGAS, N.M. - Western State Colorado University women's basketball cut New Mexico Highlands University's lead to three points with 5:59 remaining.  However, NMHU would stop the Mountaineer comeback by going on a 7-17 run to end the game.  The Mountaineers were defeated 72-85 in their final road game of the 2014-15 season.

Western (4-19, 3-16 RMAC) had five players score in double figures Saturday night.  Leading the way for Western was Taylor Long (Fr., Moreno Valley, California).  Long tied a career high, scoring 15 points.  Teammate Stephanie Williams (RFr., Cerritos, California) added 14 points while Jade McIntosh (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colorado) and Sydnie Lengyel (Jr., Tempe, Arizona) each added 12.  Taylor Mayes (Jr., Hutchinson, Kansas) also high the double figure mark in scoring with 11 points.

The Mountaineers and NMHU (6-17, 5-14 RMAC) went back-and-forth to begin the game.  There were a total of eight lead changes before NMHU took control of the game with 10:10 remaining in the first half.  The Cowgirls would extend their lead to nine points, 45-36, to end the first half.

Western trailed by as many as 12 points in the second half.  However, a 12-2 run by Western pulled the Mountaineers to within two points, 56-54 with 11:43 left to play.  The Mountaineers kept the score close but were not able to regain the lead, falling by 12 points.

The Mountaineers outrebounded the Cowgirls 40-32, allowing only five second chance points in the game.

NMHU's Jenny Johnson paced all players with 22 points, scoring all 22 in the first half.

Western will play their three final games of the season at home.  The first, against Colorado Mesa University, will take place next Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in Paul Wright Gym.
