GUNNISON, Colo. - Western State Colorado University women's basketball will look to defend their undefeated record on Saturday in the conference opener against CSU-Pueblo at 5 p.m. in Paul Wright Gym. The Mountaineers have started the season 2-0 for the first time since 2011-12. Along with being Western's first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game of the season, it is also the home opener for women's basketball.
Western (2-0, 0-0 RMAC) enters the game after notching two wins last weekend at the Colorado Mesa University Holiday Inn - Airport Thanksgiving Classic. The Mountaineers defeated Dixie State University 68-59 and Oklahoma Panhandle State University 70-62 to start the 2015-16 regular season.
Sophomore guard
Taylor Long (So., Moreno Valley, California) is leading the charge for Western, averaging and RMAC leading 23 points per game. Long also leads the team in assists with nine and is tied for second on the team in rebounding with 13.
CSU-Pueblo (5-1, 0-0 RMAC) comes into the weekend riding a five game win streak. After dropping their first game of the season to Lubbock Christian, the ThunderWolves have won their past five games by an average of 15.6 points.
The ThunderWolves have three players averaging double figures in scoring. Guard Tuileisu Anderson and center Molly Rohrer lead with 13.8 points each, while forward Lauren Heyn is averaging 10 points per game.
