SILVER CITY, N.M. – Western State Colorado University women's basketball team fell to Western New Mexico University, 62-55, Saturday evening in Silver City, N.M. The Mountaineers close out the 2015 calendar year with two home games against Adams State and Fort Lewis next Friday and Saturday.
Taylor Long provided a spark for the Mountaineers, putting up 14 points and a game-high eight boards. She also had three assists.
Also for the Mountaineers,
Sydnie Lengyel and
Sadie Stroup put up a dozen points each. Lengyel shot 50 percent from the field in the game.
The Mustangs offense was generated by guard Jada Grady. Grady put up 21 points, including five baskets from downtown. My'Kale French added in 12 points.
The Mountaineers outshot the Mustangs 40 percent to 36 in the game. The team led early put were down by as much as 11 points after the end of the first quarter.
