WBB | Long scores 19 against Colorado State

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Western State Colorado University women's basketball opened the 2015-16 season on Friday night in an exhibition game against Colorado State University. Western's Taylor Long (So., Moreno Valley, California) scored a career high 19 points in a 42-84 loss to the Rams.

Long scored 13 second half points, making 10-of-12 free throws in the game in a career night for the sophomore guard. Long led all scorers with 19 points.

Against the Division I opponent, Western trailed CSU (1-0, 0-0 MWC) 27-14 after the first quarter. Despite holding the Rams scoreless for 4:18 in the second quarter, Western was unable to mount a comeback and trailed CSU 47-16 at the break.

Along with Long's 13 second half points, Sadie Stroup (Jr., Foresthill, California) added six in the second stanza to bring her scoring total to nine points for the game.

The Mountaineers will continue their season with another exhibition game on Monday against the University of Northern Colorado. The game in Greeley is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. from the Bank of Colorado Arena.
